Last mission of semester 1

This mission took a lot of our time to do. The interviews were very time consuming and so was the editing. After some time though I got more familiar with Adobe pro and work speeded up. We have added some research at the beginning about Digital Journalism. The interviews were placed in the middle and then we showed our work process towards the end of the video. To make the video more interesting to watch we added it some video transitions and audio like music at the beginning and at the end of the video.
We spent a lot of hours on this mission and had big difficulties towards the end with exporting. Something was wrong with the files because half of the video went missing which meant we had to redo it. After long hours of stress and work we managed to fix this problem by re-downloading all the files again and placing them all into one folder. We also imported them all in again to be sure.
I liked working with my group because together we were able to overcome any obstacles and we were helping eachother with the work. We would ask eachother’s opinions and discussed everything first before we added it to the video. The work was fairly split and everyone knew what tasks they have to do. We stayed in contact all the time on messenger but we were all able to stay after College to work on the project which was very great. This meant we worked together almost all the time and didn’t have to rely on messenger communication only. Despite each of us being in different groups we still managed to arrange meetings and were willing to give up our free time in order to work on this mission.
I was happy yet slightly embarrassed with our video. I think we really went outside the box with the way we presented this mission. No other video involved acting which made it stand out from the rest. It was embarrassing to watch ourselves acting in the video and I think we should’ve gone further with it to make it more realistic. Next time I would work more on things like that and try to improve the flow of the video. Some bits looked a bit rushed and could be improved. We wanted to make the video formal looking since the topic about car incidents was serious. However we decided to add some humour to the interview of the drunk driver. We felt like this was very beneficial.
Watching the videos of others made us wonder if we did it wrong because most of the videos were very alike but our one was different. We did stick to what the video must involve, we showed our work process and showed our two finished products so we guess we completed the mission correctly. A lot of videos were screen recorded with audio in the background. We had to mark each video on our own using our phones. It was very difficult to judge them based on the marking scheme we had. Some videos were interesting to watch while some were hard to understand and were rushed.

Digital Journalism

have decied to do Digital Journalism for this project. I have looked into it in detail and this one was the most appealing to me. I have already talked with Livia Alencar and we have decided on forming a group together. We are both interested in Digital Journalism but we need one more person to form a group of three. It has turned out that Julia Lo Iacono was without a group and wanted to do Digital Journalism too so she joined us and together we formed a group.
We have met on Friday to get to know eachother and to read over the mission. We then took a note of what has to be included in the video and read over any important instructions that where on the website. We then went off for the weekend to brainstorm our own ideas for this projects. On Monday we then spent the whole day sharing our ideas and thoughts. We did some brainstorming together like spider diagrams and searched for inspiration online. We found it very difficult as first to decide on the topic for the video and got a bit lost halfway through but we managed to help eachother out by discussions.

After some time of researching  for ideas we have come up with the idea to base our project car accidents  and road incidents. We all thought that would be an interesting topic to examine and we then got more ideas for it. We were thinking of preforming a car incident or to base it on a real life event. We then thought that we could act as the people from the real car incident and do interviews  with eachother by asking questions and recording ourselves. I was thinking we could even dress up a little bit to make it more realistic. We could record in one of the empty lecture halls or find an empty room somewhere.

Once we agreed on the topic we search for any car incidents on google that we could get some inspiration from. We manged to find a perfect example of what we were looking for and we were lucky because the article had an actual footage of the car crashThis was very helpful and we decided to use it in our own video to show our audience where our ideas and inspiration came from.
We ended up with three main characters, the victim, the saver and the drunk driver. We used an online spin wheel to fairly pick the characters. We have wrote down our own dialogue for the main question.  After some practice we found an empty room in the S block where we asked eachother the same question and recorded everything on the phone. We also have dressed up a little bit to make it more realistic. The interviews took a lot of  time to record as it was very hard to stay serious within the role. We ended up laughing or mixing up the words.

When we were done with the interviews we then sat down at one mac to checked them all and picked out the good ones. Then we staring working on the Storymap and the infographic. We wanted to have them done before we started with the video. We have recoded the whole process of us making them so we could use it in the video to show our work process.  Everything was then saved to one drive and the memory stick before we started editing.
